Five years after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, acts like My Morning Jacket, Steve Earle, R.E.M.'s Mike Mills and Tom Morello have joined forces for 'Dear New Orleans,' a digital compilation that will benefit area charities. Air Traffic Control, a non-profit group behind the project, also managed to get the Wrens, OK Go, Bonnie "Prince" Billy and MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer for the project, which drops on Aug. 24.

The 31-track album benefits Sweet Home New Orleans and Gulf Restoration Network. Among the New Orleans-inspired tunes, Kramer teamed with local outfit Bonerama for a funkified take on the MC5's 'Kick Out the Jams,' while MMJ teamed with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band for a rendition of the Mardi Gras favorite, 'Carnival Time.'

"Go to New Orleans and meet the folks down there," Kramer said in an official statement. "Talk with them, eat with them, work alongside them and then play music with them and for them. Anyone that calls themselves a musician owes a debt to New Orleans."
