NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans native Carl Rabito - one of only 43 PGA Certified Master PGA Teaching Professionals nationwide and among Golf Magazine's "Top 100 Teachers" - has opened the Carl Rabito Golf Academy at the North Course at City Park.

The Academy kick-off coincided with the "Greatest Day of Golf" celebration at North Course at City Park on Sunday, June 28:

"City Park is ecstatic to welcome the Carl Rabito Golf Academy in true New Orleans-style - with a party," said Don Tillar, General Manager of the North Course. "The 'Greatest Day of Golf' celebrates those who have helped successfully re-open the North Course and its bright future."

"I'm happy to bring the academy to my New Orleans roots," says Carl Rabito. "It's a privilege to be part of the re-birth of this important public course and introduce this great game to a new generation of golfers."

The Rabito Academy is conducting week-long junior camps - for children age 9-15 - through August 21, focusing on fundamentals: full swing, woods, putting, chipping, rules and etiquette. The camp - $190 / week - runs three hours each day for five days.

Half- and one-hour private lessons provide instruction customized to golfers' needs and goals.

Golfers can receive complimentary, introductory 10-minute lessons which include video swing analysis.

In addition to North Course at City Park, there are Carl Rabito Golf Academy locations in Illinois, Florida and Ohio.

Rabito-trained instructors employ a highly successful system of evaluation: physical ability and limitations, exercises for strength and flexibility, short-term and long-term goals. Instruction consists of basic tenets, concepts and philosophy of the swing; how the body functions in the golf swing; specific instruction for the swing; understanding the dynamics of the swing and golf-specific strength and conditioning. Golfers see results with a more efficient, reputable swing, a customized blueprint for the swing and a reduced risk of injury.

About the North Course at City Park
The North Course is the first City Park layout to re-open. The East and West Courses, also devastated by Katrina, are slated for restoration in coming years. A par-67, 5,700-yard layout, the North Course at City Park originally opened in 1968 and the past three years has undergone a $1.3 million restoration. This includes the addition of tee boxes, re-grassing of greens, widening fairways, re-shaping bunkers, a new irrigation system and a re-routing of several holes on the back nine. BCG has procured new golf carts and maintenance equipment to replace those which languished under three feet of water for nearly a month, post-Katrina.

City Park was a regular stop on the PGA TOUR for 15 years, hosting the Greater New Orleans Open Invitational. Billy Casper won the tournament in 1958 and again in its second iteration as the First NBC New Orleans Open, held at Lakewood Country Club, in 1975. That victory marked Casper's 51st and final PGA TOUR win prior to playing on the Senior PGA TOUR.
