Big movie closes part of French Quarter

This Spring is turning out to be a bonanza for Hollywood South, with a record number of projects in New Orleans by early Summer.

"We are having the busiest first two quarters of the New Orleans film industry history," The director of the of the New Orleans Office of Film and Video told WWL First News.

"It is an amazing spring," Jennifer Day added. ''I think by early summer we will have touched about 15 major projects.''

Major motion pictures include filming now or recenlty wrapping include "Earthbound", the "Green Lantern" and "Red."

Starting today filming for "Red," with Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman, will close down North Peters from Bienville to St. Louis in the French Quarter. It will be closed dawn to dusk each day through Friday.

Day says, ''If you do hear some gunfire or car crashes, it's all part of movie magic.''

Along with the movies, we have a slew of commercials and TV projects going on as well.

Other stars spending time in the region include: Jessica Alba, Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Tim Robbins, Val Kilmer, Patrick Dempsey, Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson, John Goodman, Wendell Pierce and Steve Zahn.

Here is a list of some of the movies and shows in various stages of production now in and around New Orleans:

Red

Summit Entertainment's feature film Red starring Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis will begin shooting March 25 for 2 weeks in New Orleans.


Green Lantern

Warner Brothers' 3D theatrical adaptation of DC Comics' 'The Green Lantern' stars Ryan Reynolds and Mark Strong, along with Peter Sarsgaard, Blake Lively, and Tim Robbins.


Treme

HBO's "Treme" is a New Orleans set and shot drama from "The Wire" creator David Simon. The show takes its name from a historically Creole New Orleans neighborhood rich in music and culture. Set just four months after Hurricane Katrina, the drama follows city rebuilding with a focus on local musicians reclaiming their lives and livelihoods. Stars include John Goodman, Melissa Leo, Wendell Pierce and Steve Zahn.


Blood Out

Films in Motion feature film Blood Out starring Val Kilmer, Randy Couture, Vinnie Jones, Brock Lesnar, and Tamer Hassan has been shooting in Baton Rouge from February through this month.


Love Wedding Marriage

The independent feature film Love Wedding Marriage starring Jessica Alba is shooting in New Orleans from February 4th until mid March.


Flypaper

Signature pictures feature film Flypaper starring Patrick Dempsey will begin preproduction March 1st and scheduled to shoot May 3 through June 4th in Baton Rouge.


Earthbound

The Film Department's feature film Earthbound starring Kate Hudson is shot from January 18th to March 7th in New Orleans.


Jeff, Who Lives at Home

The independent feature film Jeff, Who Lives at Home is scheduled to begin shooting April 19th in the New Orleans area.


The Ledge

The independent feature film The Ledge is scheduled to start shooting February 22 through March 1th in Baton Rouge with a few days of filming in New Orleans. Stars include Liv Tyler, Terrence Howard, Patrick Wilson and others.


Silver Cord

The independent feature film Silver Cord will shoot in March and April primarily in New Orleans with 3 weeks at the Celtic/Raleigh Studios in Baton Rouge. It stars Val Kilmer, Hazel D'Jan and others.


Memphis Beat

A new TV series to air on TNT starring Daniel Hugh Kelly is filming in New Orleans.


Beasts of the Wild

Court 13 International's feature film Beasts of Wild is scheduled to begin shooting in Houma in late April. More information will become available as this production develops.


Samuel Bleek

The independent feature film Samuel Bleek is scheduled to begin filming in early April in the Lafourche and Terrebonne areas.


Scratching The Surface

The independent feature film Scratching the Surface will begin preproduction in New Orleans on April 6th.


The Fishies

DMG Holdings television series The Fishies is filming in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.


First Date - Season 4

DMG Holdings television series, "First Date Season 4" is filming in New Orleans and Baton Rouge until the end of May.


Living With Leroy

DMG Holdings television series Living with Leroy is shooting in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.


Revenge of the Bridesmaid

The ABC Family Movie of the week Revenge of the Bridesmaids is in early pre production in New Orleans.
